AI Policy

The purpose of this AI-Use Policy is to provide guidance for Born Church staff members in the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in the life of our church. In short, our goal is to recognize the value of AI tools while maintaining the integrity and authenticity of our communication, sermons, and church-wide operations.  We also recognize

Guiding Principles

  1. Human-centered approach: The use of AI should complement, not replace, human input in our decision-making processes, emphasizing the importance of human discernment and judgment, especially in matters of faith.

  2. Respect for human dignity: AI use must respect the dignity of all individuals and promote the common good, in line with the standards of Scripture and the beliefs of our church.

  3. Transparency and accountability: Staff members must remain transparent in their use of AI and be accountable for the outcomes and consequences of their decisions.

How We Use AI and Related Tools at Any City Church

  1. We recognize that AI can aid our work, use our gifts and passions, and fulfill our individual calling.  We believe it can be responsibly used, developed, and deployed in our church similar to other technological advancements.

  2. Staff members may utilize AI for research purposes, including but not limited to biblical interpretation, historical context, and supplementary materials.

  3. AI may be used to assist in content improvement, such as grammar and spelling corrections.

  4. We may also use AI tools for speech-to-text transcription, content summarization, outline generation, image generation, copy writing and copy improvement, and ideation.

Rules for AI Uses

  1. Any AI-generated content will be reviewed and approved by a staff member or designated supervisor to ensure the material aligns with our church's values and teachings before dissemination or use.

  2. While AI can provide valuable research assistance and content suggestions, the actual composition of sermons shall remain a human-driven process, led by the pastoral team or designated sermon writers.  We prioritize the Bible and traditional materials like commentaries, theological works, and other trusted sources and never use AI-generated content as a primary source.

  3. AI-generated content should not be incorporated into sermons without proper human review and discernment, ensuring the sermon aligns with the Word of God and our church's theological beliefs.

  4. Sermon illustrations, examples, and stories may be sourced or inspired by AI, but must be thoughtfully evaluated and adapted by the sermon writer to ensure they are relevant and meaningful to the congregation.

Data Privacy and Security

  1. Staff members must handle personal and sensitive data in compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations, as well as our church's privacy policy.

  2. AI use should prioritize data security and privacy, and any AI tools or platforms used by staff must adhere to strict security and privacy standards.

  3. Staff members must ensure that AI-generated content does not inadvertently disclose confidential information or compromise the privacy of individuals within the congregation or the broader community.

Ongoing Evaluation and Training

  1. Staff members will engage in regular training and education on AI technology, ethical considerations, and best practices to stay informed and ensure responsible use.

  2. The church leadership will periodically review and evaluate the use of AI in church operations to ensure it remains aligned with our mission and values.

  3. Feedback on the effectiveness and impact of AI usage should be actively solicited from staff members, the congregation, and other stakeholders, and used to inform future policy adjustments and decision-making processes.

  4. This AI-Use Policy will be reviewed and updated periodically, or as needed, to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness considering technological advancements, legal changes, and the evolving needs of our church and community.
